 ICT driving social changes:

“They define causes of society through non social systems”
(Jordan 1999, 79)

The core of networking has started with the  TCP/IP protocol for all interconnected devices, without this protocol protocol no connectivity would have been established, and arising from this all the revolutions that appeared online..

TCP/IP wasn’t specially made to make people buy books online, neither people wanting to buy goods online prearranged for something that would  makes them able to do accomplish this…, all the computerized world was based on other aims and goals by researchers, programmers and scientists for technical and technological reasons.

First the connectivity was for governments, universities and science then later innovation started such as funds transfers and EDIs for companies then the web with different applications.

This fast growing expanding vis-à-vis digital world forced users from individuals and businesses to certain rules and characteristics like for example e-shops that enables customers to shop anytime during the day and year from any place,  also provides  convenience while minimizing costs, better comparisons and the more to choose from …lots of advantages not found in the physical world all the time; this observable fact created formed attributes and social changes for the users by means of  non direct motive from ICT, regardless of the regulation and local laws, this virtual space created different rules.

Another remarkable bit is Operating in the new symbolic economy- the shift from tangible to intangible products of course the meaning is about transferring the data from and to the other end of the globe in the matter of seconds instead of sending the real thing, this is how the progression if moving forward with the amount of knowledge, data and the rapidity.

Have you ever had to just remember someone’s  anniversary or birthday which you have no enough time to send a gift, this person could be overseas and you don’t want to miss sending a present,  you walk into a flower shop asking about how to send it with courier then you be surprised that you can just choose  the gift from a catalogue then pay for what you choose, and all you need to know is that the flower shop chain is a world wide connected business that send your request to the other end local shop overseas to deliver the present!!!  Without sending any tangibles, this also can be done online without leaving your place, how easy!

2) Virtual spaces of information

Virtual space of information, “virtual lives are created through the exchange of information” JORDAN 1999
Thinking about this statement, this is right about how the way the cyberspace is constructed however this is not really accurate because the cyber space doesn’t have to be based on information, why? Because I learned that the information is only information if the materials are useful for the person in receipt of these data; information on the internet is consistent of huge amount of different data that is miscellaneous data pushed on the internet from all interconnected devices that are submitted by different hardware and people from different places and in different languages.

The Information is the result of processing and organizing the data that makes knowledge to the person and now also for smart devices that listen to instructions from the network.; like mobile phones…this network of information has to be presented and structured in a way that makes a pattern for the receiving person or devices same as the electromagnetic pulses in a dialup network if the computer modem cannot understand the signals it is not useful data connection.

Going back to the virtual space communities, using social software and sharing knowledge and interests…, blogs that starts from a simple post regarding any aspects to forum multi-form complex structure chain this is called the structuration theory.

An example related to myself is online software development community, contributing in such social space provides extraordinary assistance for everyone interested in the same field. Thus makes us a big part of the cyberspace building and forming new online brain.

1) The internet…

In the earliest stage of the foundation of the first connected computerized devices using circuit switches no one would have ever thought that these connected devises will affect the entire humanity.

Many years and many people have contributed into this development and the fast increase in these days technology, staring sometime in 60s from an 18 year old French Blaise Pascal who have invited a device called Pascaline (now called calculator) that helped his father with his work, this devise used a base ten that have eight variable knobs used to sum eight means; this is a very early stage of how these days processors works;

Also the begging of the telecommunications in the 70s with people like Charles Morrison, Wheatstone, and Bell who have contributed to the development of the telegraph and the telephone.

The first evolution of the networks was then started by the US department of defense for military purposes, and then the idea has been adopted by scientists, researchers then universities and finally the private sectors, rapidly these millions and millions of computers connected together using fibre optics, copper wires, RF signals, infra red, Bluetooth, GSM or other wireless technology created a network called Wide Area Network or WAN forming the Internet, this incredibly large network has been an important entity in everyday life.

Computers and smart devices are used by many individuals, different cultures and different backgrounds forming a huge amount of online societies who depends on this network for everyday life.

For most of us the net is a social networking place which means communicating with people in different locations around the world, they can interact using emails blogs, forums and chatting..This connectivity has surprising positive influences on societies

Social networking has forced and shaped society with the technology that also has negative implication; an example would be the impact of online shopping sites and online auctions on the physical shopping malls and physical activities.
